Ms. Bonnie Lysyk appointed to the position of Provincial Auditor for the Province of Saskatchewan

Speaker Don Toth today announced that this afternoon the Legislative Assembly unanimously adopted a motion to appoint Ms. Bonnie Lysyk as Provincial Auditor for the Province of Saskatchewan. The appointment was made in accordance with Section 3.1(1) of The Provincial Auditor Act, on the unanimous recommendation of the Standing Committee of Public Accounts. The committee made the recommendation after the completion of a comprehensive selection process. Ms. Lysyk will take office effective April 1, 2011.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ms. Lysyk is a graduate of the University of Manitoba. She has a Masters in Business Administration and is a Chartered Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor.

Ms. Lysyk has significant audit, finance, risk management, and governance experience gained from working over 25 years in both the public and private sectors. She served as the Deputy Auditor General & Chief Operating Officer for the Office of the Auditor General of Manitoba for nearly seven years. She has held senior management positions in other organizations including a large pension fund and a major property and casualty insurance company. As well, Ms. Lysyk worked for over ten years with Manitoba Hydro in various roles including Assistant to the President and Chief Executive Officer of Manitoba Hydro. She also served as the Chief Audit Executive with the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission. She obtained her CA while working with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers).

Over the years, Ms. Lysyk has been involved with various professional and not-for-profit organizations including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Canadian Comprehensive Auditing Foundation, the YM-YWCA and the Center for the Protection of Children in Manitoba. She served on the board of a large Manitoba credit union for nine years and as Board Chair for two years. She is presently on the Board of the Canadian Council of the Institute oflnternal Auditors.

The Provincial Auditor is an independent statutory officer of the Legislative Assembly. The Provincial Auditor Act gives the Provincial Auditor the responsibility, authority and independence to audit and publicly report on all government organizations.
