Speaker Hon. Dan D’Autremont today announced that the Legislative Assembly unanimously adopted a motion to appoint Ms. Judy Ferguson as Provincial Auditor for the Province of Saskatchewan. The appointment was made in accordance with Section 3.1(1) of The Provincial Auditor Act, on the unanimous recommendation of the Standing Committee of Public Accounts. The committee made the recommendation after the completion of a comprehensive selection process. Ms. Ferguson will take office effective June 1, 2015.
Ms Ferguson, FCPA, FCA has been the Acting Provincial Auditor since September 1, 2013, and was previously the Assistant Provincial Auditor. She has extensive expertise in both financial and performance auditing. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant in good standing. In 2004, she was awarded the Fellowship of Chartered Accountancy of Saskatchewan in recognition of her contributions to the professional accounting profession. She holds a B. Comm. from the University of Saskatchewan.
She is an active member of the Canadian Professional Accounting profession having served on the Canadian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board from 2007 to 2013, currently serving on the discipline committee of Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants of Saskatchewan, and previously serving on a number of national and provincial committees and task forces.
She is an active member of the legislative audit community serving as a representative on various Canadian Council of Legislative Auditors (CCOLA) committees.
The Provincial Auditor is an independent statutory officer of the Legislative Assembly. The Provincial Auditor Act gives the Provincial Auditor the responsibility, authority and independence to audit and publicly report on all government organizations.
